Listen up, baby dolls - you aren't going to find your worth at the bottom of a shopping bag. I know, I've tried. Lotions, lip gloss, clothes, shoes, accessories, hair products, home items, the list goes on and on...
I bought and bought and bought in an effort to be sexier, smarter, cooler, a better lover, a "put together" woman. It never made me feel those things though. Sure, the shopping gave me a rush, but when it was over I'd sit in my car and my stomach would swallow my heart and I'd literally feel sick. Why did I buy that? I don't need it. I just bought something yesterday.
I've come to realize that no pair of shoes will make me a goddess. Nor will fake eyelashes or spray tans or $100 jeans. Those things won't make us the goddess we're searching for because we already are her. Those things won't make us goddesses because they are material, finite, here today, gone tomorrow. Strip it all away and you are still you. And guess what? People adore THAT you.
Don't get me wrong - shopping is fun, wearing a new outfit or sporting a new hairstyle is fun and can make you deliriously happy, but never feel like you HAVE to in order to be worth something.
So, how do you stop shopping for the gold at the end of the rainbow? Concentrate on who YOU are without all the material things. Who would you be if there was no one to impress? And what if everyone walked around naked and there was no need for clothes and accessories? How would you express yourself?
Remember, we are not what we wear or what car we drive or what cool kitchen gadgets we own. We are not lipstick and botox and perfectly manicured nails. We are flesh, bones, heart, soul. We are raw poetry in motion, goddesses, sisters, mothers, friends.
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
