2014 Magic Word

Have you found your magic word for the new year? I say "magic" because words have power, especially when we write them down. I've chosen an overarching word since 2012 and for the past two years these words have manifested amazing things in my life.

I'm still feeling out my word for 2014, but "trust" is pulling at me - trust in myself, trust in God. Trust that everything works in my favor. I've also thought about "service," "abundance," and "la dolce vita."

Do you have one picked out yet? What does it mean to you?

Miracle Manifestation

I've always loved the idea of a miracle walk, a la Sark when she opens her heart to the universe and says, "Miracle, find me now!"

She was recently part of a call that introduced her miracle manifesting formula, which at its essence is a formula for getting through challenges and helping us to see everyday miracles. When you find yourself in a tough spot and need a little miracle guidance, work through these steps:

1. Incident--What's the incident? (bottom line it!)
2. Recognition--Tell the truth about how you're feeling
3. Compassion--Find compassion for yourself and for others involved
4. Desire to create a miracle--find the desire to create a miracle and invoke it "Miracle find me now!"
5. Transformational action-What does your Inner Wisdom/Inner Wise Self want you to do? What is the transformational action you're willing to take?
6. New result--Describe the miracle transformation

I've been using the "Miracle, find me now" all the time! And you can specify it too! "Money miracle, find me now," or "Love miracle, find me now." Whatever you need to find, it's there and waiting for you to claim it. Just ask, believe, receive :)

Sometimes You Just Have to Write

A peek inside my journal (maybe you can relate)
12.17.2013

I wasn't even going to get up to get this book and write. I was just going to stare at the wall and write in my head like I do sometimes, but I told myself I need to physically do it. Even when it's inconvenient. Even when I'm too lazy. Especially when I'm too lazy!

Because there's nothing like moving a pen across the page. No matter what the world is like around you, you still have the writing, the escape into ink and paper. You still have the satisfaction of your own words going into history.

THAT is the real stuff, the real act of writing. That is when true love for it pours out - when you don't care if another soul reads it, when your body actually sighs from having written. THAT's when you feel like a writer, when you recognize who you really are.

I dream about bookstores and beautiful books and befriending favorite authors. It's because I'm always thinking about writing. I really do forget who I am. I forget because money speaks louder, the jobs, the business plans, the urge to get ahead. I forget about what I'm here to do simply by becoming obsessed with what I'm here to do.

But when I get back to that passion space, writing becomes a meditation, the words spilling out and my brain goes into a deeper state and I'm not in control anymore. I just see my hand moving.

Writing is as beautiful as dancing. My two loves. My two healing balms. When I'm really doing it, I don't care who sees. I don't care if the pages fly away and dissolve into the clouds. It's the act, the process, the love of doing it.

The 2013 List of Freaking Amazing Books

12/11/2013

Comments

I'm going to go ahead and jump on the 2013 book list recommendation wagon because I love books, I love lists, and I love reading book lists, so why not?! Here are my picks for rad books you should pick up in the new year (does anyone use the word "rad" anymore?):

Fiction
Picture
Love in the Time of Global Warming by Francesca Lia Block
Francesca has been my muse and mentor since I was 16 years old, so of course her books will always make my top lists.

Her newest book is a retelling of Odysseus set in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. There's magic, art, love, giants, battle scenes, and mystical creatures on this journey written in Ms. Block's signature lyrical style. It's swoon worthy.

Business

Think Like a Stripper: Business Lessons to Up Your Confidence, Attract More Clients & Rule Your Market by Erika Lyremark
I've read a lot of business books this year, but this one takes the cake for sassy, sexy, woman-on-top biz advice.

Erika uncovers the secrets of success using real life lessons she learned as a stripper. As the book description says, these aren't lessons you'll learn in business school ;)

Fun

Fairy Tale Rituals: Engage the Dark, Eerie & Erotic Power of Familiar Stories by Kenny Klein
I gobbled this one up in two days, I think. Throughout the book you'll learn about the real story behind all those fairy tales you read as a kid AND how to use the magic and mysticism of the stories in your own life.
Fairy Tale Rituals explores the eerie, seductive Faerie lore lying just beneath the surface of eleven favorite fairy tales. Feel the fear and passion these stories once inspired in ancient listeners. Learn how to create modern rituals that will bring the archetypal magical characteristics of these fairy tale icons -- the sexual attractiveness of Snow White, the totem animal journey of Rose-Red, the manifestation prowess of Cinderella -- into your own life.

The 90-Day Novel: Unlock the story within by Alan Watt
When I found the 90-day novel, I was looking for something that would provide writing guidance as well as inspiration. This book delivers!

It not only helps you pen your draft in 90 days, it also helps you structure your plot and build your characters and their world in such a way that doesn't feel restricted and rigid. The whole process is free flowing so that you don't feel like the first draft has to come out perfect.
Working in this way, story structure (which is often taught as a formula) becomes a springboard, setting you free to explore the far reaches of your imagination. "There are no rules," Watt tells us. "Stay out of your left brain, and let your unconscious do the heavy lifting." The 90-Day Novel clearly articulates the process of marrying the rigor of story structure to the wildness of the imagination, and in the process reminds us of something we so often forget...that writing is actually fun.
Self-Help

Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One by Dr. Joe Dispenza
Wow! Yes! This book is still blowing my mind. It's hippy woo-woo meets science so you get a little bit of quantum physics, a scoop of neuroscience, and a wonderful mix of scientific spirituality.

Learn how the brain functions, why it's so hard to change negative habits, and how to change the way you think to create the world of your dreams.

Memoir

Through Painted Deserts: Light, God, and Beauty on the Open Road by Donald Miller
This book is pure beauty. Real, raw, honest-to-goodness life lessons told through the eyes of two adventurers who set out to cross the U.S. in a Volkswagen camping van. I read it before I moved to the Philippines and it spoke to me so completely, sparked the wanderer inside me. It's definitely a road trip you won't forget.

Spirituality
