I loooove books, especially inspiring and creative ones, so I thought I'd share four of my favorite artsy books: ![]() Happy Voodoo Gris Gris by Mademoiselle De La Brindille I found this whimsical book for mere pennies at Half-Price Books, but it's worth way more. Mademoiselle shows you how to make beautiful lucky charms and talismans. There are over 45 projects (from jewelry to dolls to amulets to a wishing tree) and she even explains where each charm originated from and the power it holds. ![]() Journal Bliss: Creative Prompts to Unleash Your Inner Eccentric by Violette This book is a treasure chest of doodles, squiggles, and color-popping art journaling. I can't draw to save my life, but Violette's easy instructions inspire my inner wannabe doodler. ![]() Altered Art Circus: Techniques for Journals, Paper Dolls, Art Cards, and Assemblage by Lisa Kettell I first met Lisa through a Flickr group for fairy art lovers and I've always enjoyed her sugary sweet artistic touch. So when I saw that she had a book I snatched it up. It's full of magical crafts ranging from spellbinding altered books to Marie Antoinette paper dolls. ![]() Unfurling: A Mixed-Media Workshop by Misty Mawn Like I said, I can't draw for beans, but Misty's work is awe-inspiring. Plus, there's lots of other stuff to explore in Unfurling; try the collage techniques, stamp carving, clay pottery, or origami. ![]() Over the past two weeks I've done a lot of praying, writing "Dear God" letters, and shifting my thinking up a positive notch. It's really, really hard to expect a good outcome when the present moment is so grim, but I used all my heart and spirit power to believe in a miracle. I read a quote that said something to the tune of, give thanks for blessings still on their way. After reading that I wrote a letter to God and thanked him for taking care of Freddy, for restoring his health back to him, and for helping me financially. I felt better after writing the letter, but some doubt still remained clumped in my stomach. What I've learned from this is that it's okay to have doubt - we're only human. The Secret claims that negative thoughts can block you from blessings, and to a degree that's true, but it's not the final say. Matthew 17:20 says, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." It's true. Blessings are given even if we do have doubt. All you need is a little faith for magic and miracles. You can skip all the other stuff: the manifesting and magic genie mentality. Just have that little seed of faith growing in your heart. My own miracle happened; Freddy got to come home and is regaining his strength AND the vet bill was significantly lower than what I was initially quoted. Hallelujah! Dear Love Warriors,
I missed Love Letter Sunday due to my nine-month old dachshund’s weakening health. For some time now my boyfriend and I have struggled to find out what is causing Freddy so much pain. He’s a tiny thing, but has lost a lot of weight and won’t eat or drink. He has persistent vomiting and lethargy. Blood tests, x-rays, and ultrasounds show nothing. He is up to date on his shots and vaccines. He’s currently at the vet getting IV fluids and more tests to come. This is emotionally and fiscally draining, but I have to do everything I can to save him. I can’t imagine living without that little guy. Today, I’d like to ask for your prayers and positive thoughts. I’m sure everyone can agree that pets are not just pets, but family. Freddy has given us so much joy and it breaks my heart to see the light dim in his eyes. Thank you all for being here and reading this and extending your love warrior spirit to our little family. xo, Cassandra There's a full moon brewing and will come to fruition on Tuesday, October 11. I think this is a particularly important full moon, as it signifies courage, leadership, and self-assertiveness. The girls over at Astro Style say it's the perfect moon for self-lovin'. They suggest seeing how many times you can compliment yourself in 24 hours.
All full moons are a promise of fulfillment of something that was started at the new moon. It's a globe of light that illuminates our progress and guides us further into the journey. I love what Cafe Astrology says about this moon in Aries: "This Full Moon is about emotional declarations. Something has been building inside of us, likely of a personal nature, and now is the time when the energy of the cosmos fairly demands that we let it out. Over the next two weeks, we will discover what this declaration means for us. For now, we can't sit on our feelings. We need to express them." Use this moon's energy to speak your soul. Let your heart bloom in its own beautiful way, and don't forget to look in the mirror and say, "I love you." What am I most thankful for this week? The rain!!! Last night there was a big storm and it's been raining off and on this whole day. Much needed here in Texas.
