My Life is not Glamorous

My office is a lace-covered kitchen table, my "desk" chair an intricately designed wooden piece with a red and white checkered cushion to sit on.

We have no air conditioner, only the ceiling fan that whirs above the table and a couple of stand fans. I always sweat while I work.

I wear whatever is comfortable and cool because it's always hot and humid in the Philippines. Over-sized cotton shirts and linen pants, bathing suit tops and denim shorts. Flip flops. Always flip flops (except for the occasional boot-wearing session during the "winter" or on rainy days). I have two pairs of wedges, which I've worn maybe three times.

My feet are always dirty because I take work breaks to go outside and play with the dog and goat. Ezra (the goat) is always stepping on my feet with his hooves. Stewie (the dog) is always jumping up on me with his dirty paws.

At the end of the day, I sit on the porch with Ezra (that's where he sleeps) and he licks off the salty sweat from my shoulders. It's totally gross, but I'm already dirty by that point.

I hardly ever wear makeup, because why? It's going to melt off while I put it on.

My hair is rarely styled. I just wake up and brush.

We're always going to parties, but they are laid back island parties where everyone drinks local beer and eats barbecue and listens to oldies.

Sometimes I long for the glam life, the one in my head where I attend lavish bridal fashion events and drink champagne and wear killer stilettos. The one wear I live downtown in some big flashing light city.

But honestly, I could never live that life. Not for very long, anyway. I'm not a socialite. I love stilettos, but I love my feet in the grass/ocean more. Playing with my goat and dog is way cooler and more fun than schmoozing at a fashion show. They make me laugh so much.

I enjoy what I do and where I do it, even if it is the opposite of glamorous.

It's hot and dirty and about as casual as it gets, but there are coconuts and mangoes growing right outside the door. There is the ocean only a few minutes drive away. I never have to worry about what to wear. I never set an alarm or punch a clock. And my fur babies and hubby fill my life with so much joy. Plus, I get to write for a living! It's a small living, but I've learned that it doesn't take a lot to live an abundant life.

My life isn't glamorous, but it IS magical. :) * <3
