The Sickness Comes Upon Me

2/13/2012

Tonight is a cup of gypsy cold care tea (elder flower, yarrow flower, peppermint leaf, hyssop, and a blend of spices) and Rumi poetry. I had vegetable soup for dinner. I feel the cold creeping up my throat, tickling my nose, pressing on my head. This cold came calling about a week ago and I thwarted it off with a concoction of onions, garlic, and cayenne pepper. Guess it's ready for round two, and I'm sure it's stronger this time.

Over the weekend I went to an Emilie Autumn concert in Austin. I'll have pictures posted soon, although I didn't get many because my camera died. Arg.

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, but my sweetie has to work, and who knows what kind of shape I'll be in. He may come home to me tucked inside a blanket with Kleenex up my nose. Tres sexy! Tomorrow's also the start of Michele Fischer's Spreading the Love Challenge. The goal is to write a poem for a stranger everyday in February.

And I leave you with these words from Rumi:

Love is the way messengers
from the mystery tell us things.

Love is the mother.
We are her children.

She shines inside us,
visible-invisible, as we trust
or lose trust, or feel it start to grow again.

Wishcasting Wednesday

This is my first Wishcasting Wednesday, courtesy of Jamie Ridler Studios! The prompt is, what do you wish to attract?

I wish to attract ADVENTURE.

Big, bold, travel the world kind of adventure. Sleeping in tiny huts and tee pees, getting my hands dirty, breaking out of the daily grind kind of adventure. Some people don't think I can handle it (I am kind of prissy), but how will I know if I don't try? There's so much world to explore, so many amazing paths and people. But I can't forget that adventure could be waiting for me in my own city, my own backyard.

I'm ready!

1) It's good to spend at least a year living on your own & taking care of yourself.

2) It's okay to cry.

3) Never say never.

4) Taking risks is never easy, but it's worth it.

5) Plans typically go awry.

6) Being confident & loving yourself is one of the best & most freeing things you can do.

7) Don't settle for less.

8) Family loves you no matter what.

9) You have to walk your own path, live your own journey.

10) Don't wait for certain things to happen to be happy. Be happy now.

11) Relationships are not about intensity.

12) Not everything is directly related to me.

13) I cannot rely on other people to make me happy.

14) "Our real blessings often appear to us in the shape of pains, losses, & disappointments."
~Joseph Addison

15) Never give your whole self away for a man. Or anyone.

16) I don't have to be sad to be a good artist.

17) Feel the feelings & then let them go.

18) "You could pray for 1000 nights, visualize for 1000 days, & give thanks for 1000 things, but it's
when you physically prepare the way - no matter how silly, tiny, or futile your efforts may seem -
that 1000 miracles will transform you." (I don't have the source of this quote)

19) Be a part of something bigger.

20) Life isn't about finding happiness in others; it's about finding it in yourself. It's always there.

21) Anticipate the positive.

22) " Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is." ~Ernest Hemingway

23) "Don't be reckless with hearts, & don't put up with people who are reckless with yours." ~Vonnegut

24) To truly know yourself, you must drop the desire to be understood by others.

25) Live from your core.

26) It's amazing what you find in the palm of your hand when you finally release your grip.
