It doesn't take years of therapy or hours of daily affirmations to get a confidence boost. In fact, it's the little things, the things we tend to overlook that can help us the most. Get your daily dose of vitamin C (confidence that is) with these tiny, but powerful confidence boosting tips.
get dressed
It’s one thing to lounge around in your pajamas on your day off. It’s another to lounge around in sweat pants and stained tank tops seven days a week. I’m not suggesting getting dolled up all the time, but there is something about putting on a favorite dress or wearing hot pink lipstick that boosts the mood. It's all about what makes you feel good. Maybe that's a pair of jeans, a flowy skirt, or your favorite silk cami. Wear whatever makes you feel like the goddess you are. If you feel good in what you’re wearing, the confidence will show.
walk tall
I’m guilty of the opposite - always staring at the ground. It’s usually because I’m deep in thought, but what a difference it makes to walk with my head up, eyes focused forward. It’s not only great for confidence, but body alignment too. When the body is out of alignment, the mind follows, so keep the head up and shoulders back. You’ll get a boost of confidence and energy.
write yourself a love letter
Don’t wait around for someone to dote on you. You know yourself better than anyone and deserve to praise and celebrate all that you are. Get out markers and other crafty bits and go all out on a love letter to yourself. Don’t be afraid to be over-the-top and really gloat on how amazing you are. Put it somewhere you can see it or stick it in an envelope and mail it to yourself.
practice gratitude
Focusing on what we want and don’t have leads us to believe we’re not competent enough to get it. It shines a light on what we perceive to be a weakness. So get out a piece of paper and start listing all that you’re grateful for, from big things like accomplishments and talents to little things like morning lattes and coconut lotion. Focusing on what we have and love sends a boost to the brain and reminds us that we already have a lot of beauty in our lives.
lend a helping hand
Yep, averting attention away from ourselves to help our fellow human beans (as Sark would say) is a huge confidence booster. Why? Because in the midst of contributing to a good cause, we forget our own flaws and are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment. And not only do we get rewarded, but the person or cause we’re helping does too. It’s a win-win!
actions before feelings
Feeling confident usually accompanies the act of feeling confident. Even if you’re having a low day and your self-confidence seems to have jumped out the window, affirm to yourself that you are a confident, radiant woman and nothing can get you down. Then practice one of the other confidence boosters on this list. The brain doesn't know the difference and will just assume you actually feel that way. So what may have started out as a day in the slumps will turn into the best day ever simply because you put actions before feelings.
move that body
There’s nothing like a good sweat session to detox and boost brain juice. Hit the gym, dance in your room, or go for a walk. Try a few minutes of body movement daily and see what it does for your confidence, energy, and health.
face your fears
I love what Susan Jane Gilman says in her book Kiss My Tiara: “The further you get out of your comfort zone, the bigger it gets.” And when the comfort zone gets bigger, so does your confidence. Here’s another great quote:
You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
-Eleanor Roosevelt
